Elvis McMinn

Hi, my name is Elvis McMinn. I am the Charity Director at The Newmarket Day Centre. This means that I am responsible for the everyday running of the centre.

My hobbies include Reading, Walking and Cooking.

One interesting fact about me is that I am very family orientated.

What my job means to me…….

I have worked here for over 20 years. I can not say there is one day I don’t enjoy it. Especially when you have achieved to put a smile on someone’s face.

A personal message to everybody…….

I would like to share my favourite poem with you all. Written by Spike Milligan:

"Smiling is infectious, you catch it like the flu, when someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner and someone saw me grin, when he then smiled, I realised I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile, then realised its worth, a single smile could travel on, right around the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin, don’t leave it undetected, lets start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected."

What my job means to me…….

It is not just my job I love; it is the people I care for and those I help, support, advise and signpost that gives me the greatest satisfaction, learning from others and just being there for others.

A personal message to the team……

It’s all of you that make me happy, makes me who I am and makes me strive to be the best I can be. So, to you all, I thank you for making me feel the way I do, without you I wouldn’t be me. Much love.

What my job means to me…….

Anyone involved with NDC knows the value in community support and connection. Working with the public, businesses and volunteers is incredibly humbling and a wonderful thing to be a part of.

A personal message to the volunteers……

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you to all our Volunteers, past, present and future.

When I started with NDC a few years ago – I had not really understood the impact working with volunteers would have on me. It has been so heart-warming and fulfilling.

I have had the joy of meeting so many characters, who all just want to make a difference, knowing you all has really brought me so much happiness.
In a world that is constantly growing, where human connection is becoming more and more of a rarity - no matter what hardships are faced by our community, like the Covid-19 Pandemic - Volunteers are there, reaching out and turning up with kindness, enthusiasm, dedication and with a smile.

The reach of you all doing so, is far more than just the competed task - it touches the soul of every individual involved.

On behalf of all our clients, the staff and the trustees – Thank you!

But also, for the difference you make to my world – thank you - there isn’t a day that I do not drive home feeling grateful to have be surrounded by such beautiful people.
